Karate Seminar with Sensei Lavin

March 25-26, Madison, WI

Welcome!

We are delighted to host Sensei Rachel Lavin, Technical Director of JKA Chicago - Sugiyama Dojo, for a two-day seminar on March 25th and 26th.

Rachel Lavin has a 5th degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, a Black Belt in Jiujutsu, and a Guro in Escrima (Master Instructor level in Filipino stick fighting). She has studied numerous other martial arts such as Judo, Iaido, and Brazilian Jujutsu. She has a Master's of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology and has used her varied experience to develop a program utilizing the interplay of mind and body to enhance learning and facilitate the bridging between one's potential and one's performance. Additionally, she teaches Women's Self Defense courses throughout the Chicago area.

The main theme of the seminar will be kihon (fundamentals) and bunkai. In addition to the karate sessions of the seminar, Sensei Lavin will also teach a Women's self-defense session, open to the UW-Madison community, and the seminar participants. The Sunday session will introduce the martial art of Escrima.

The cost of the seminar is $30/one session, $50/two or more sessions. For students (high school, college, or university), the rate is $40 for two or more sessions.

Once you have completed the registration, you will receive an e-mail with your filled out registration form, which you must sign, and bring to the event. You can choose to pay online, or bring payment to the event with you.

Saturday, March 25th

10 am to 12 pm: Kihon and Kata Bunkai

1 pm to 3 pm: Kihon and Kata Bunkai

Women's self-defense session

Ms. Lavin will also hold a self-defense session for women at the Spark Studio at the "Nick" from 4 pm to 6 pm on Saturday. This event is free for UW students and staff, and registered seminar participants.
