Through most of that time, he continued training and improving, rarely showing the pain he was living in. He went on to win the black belt kumite competition at the Northwestern tournament in April, 1999. His perseverance can only inspire us to overcome our own obstacles, which life puts in front of our paths.
Mike's suffering is now over. We lost a friend, and a wonderful human being, but his memory will live forever. May he rest in peace!
